Mikael Turtiainen as Singer Songwriter

Mikael Turtiainen developed a passion for music at a very early age. Before turning ten, he had already made numerous appearances as a vocalist at various events. In his teenage years, he began writing his own music, arranging tracks for various dancers and dance crews, and producing demos for up-and-coming artists. While attending the prestigious Sibelius Upper Secondary School’s dance program, he:
Performed his original music at major venues, including the Tallinn Hip Hop Festival in 2007 and Helsinki’s Senate Square New Year’s Eve concert in 2007/2008
Completed a dual qualification in music
Created choreographies for the Sibelius Upper Secondary School Girls’ Choir
Took vocal training under Aija Puurtinen
Studied singing at the Open University of the Sibelius Academy
Trained in music production under Harri Kentala, Antti Riihivuori, and Osmo Kentala
Launched businesses to produce music events
Founded the band Keisari Funk
At just 19, 2008 he was preparing to move to Los Angeles to continue his vocal studies and begin commercial training in the music industry.
Then he was hit by a tram.
There was no hope he would survive — but he did.
There was no hope he would wake from the coma — but he did.
There was no hope he would ever communicate or move a single muscle again. Yet Mikael has been relearning everything: every muscle movement, every sound, every word.
Music has always been a core part of his life. Rediscovering his ability to compose and produce has been deeply rewarding, even though the journey has been long.
He has been relearning everything after his tram accident .
2020 he build music studio for him self. That would not have happened without help from Suomen Kulttuurirahasto (Finnish Cultural Foundation) and Genelec.
Since 2021 he has been relearning to write and produce music. His coach before the accident and as well since 2021 has been Harri Kentala.
There is something in the air has been written and performed by Mikey aka Mikael (Mikael Turtiainen).
